304 vs 430 Stainless Steel Pipe: What’s the Difference?
Leave a message
1. Composition and performance differences
1. Chromium content: 304 stainless steel contains about 18% chromium, while 430 stainless steel has a slightly lower chromium content of about 16%. Chromium is a key element that determines the rust resistance of stainless steel, so 304 has slightly better rust resistance than 430.
2. Nickel content: 304 stainless steel also contains about 8% nickel, an element that increases the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. In contrast, 430 stainless steel does not contain nickel.
2. Corrosion resistance
Due to the high chromium and nickel content of 304 stainless steel, it exhibits better corrosion resistance in various atmospheric and marine environments.
In contrast, 430 stainless steel may be more susceptible to corrosion in some cases.
3. Processing and welding performance
1. Processing: 304 stainless steel has good processing performance and is easy to cut, bend and form. 430 stainless steel is slightly more difficult to process, especially when deep drawing or bending.
2. Welding: Both stainless steels have good welding performance, but 304 has more stable welding performance.

4. Application fields
1. Food and beverage processing: Due to its good corrosion resistance and hygienic properties, 304 stainless steel is widely used in food and beverage processing equipment such as storage tanks, pipes and kitchen utensils.
2. Construction and decoration: In the field of construction, due to its excellent durability and beautiful surface treatment effect, 304 stainless steel is often used for indoor and outdoor decoration, curtain walls and building components.
3. Automobile and transportation: In the automotive industry, 430 stainless steel is often used to manufacture exhaust systems and auto parts due to its good high temperature strength and relatively low price.
4. Home appliances and household goods: In terms of household goods, 304 stainless steel is widely used in cookware, bathroom accessories and home decoration due to its excellent rust resistance and beautiful surface treatment effect.
5. Chemical and petroleum industry: In the chemical and petroleum industries, due to the high requirements for the corrosion resistance and reliability of equipment, 304 stainless steel has become the preferred material for reactors, storage tanks and other equipment.
