AISI 316L Stainless Steel Properties
Leave a message
AISI 316L stainless steel is an ultra-low carbon modified austenitic stainless steel of AISI 316. By controlling the carbon content to ≤0.03%, a more stable Cr-Ni-Mo alloy system (typical composition is 16-18% Cr, 10-14% Ni, 2-3% Mo) is formed. This optimized design makes it particularly suitable for corrosion-resistant parts that cannot be annealed after welding, such as chemical equipment, food machinery and marine engineering components.
Note in practical applications: Although 316L stainless steel has excellent welding adaptability, if it is used in a high temperature environment above 425°C for a long time (especially in the sensitization temperature range), it may still cause local corrosion resistance to decrease due to carbide precipitation. Therefore, it is recommended to control the use temperature below 425°C (800°F) to ensure the long-term reliability of the material in harsh environments such as chemical and marine environments.

Core components of food processing equipment
The agitator shaft of a certain dairy production line uses 316L stainless steel rods. Its low carbon content (C≤0.03%) avoids carbide precipitation after welding and ensures no corrosion in an acidic environment of pH 3-6.
The surface roughness of the rod after solution treatment is Ra≤0.8μm, which meets FDA food contact standards and can withstand high-temperature sterilization at 135℃, extending the maintenance cycle from half a year to 3 years.
300KVA oil-type voltage regulator housing
For the tropical high humidity environment in Southeast Asia (humidity 90%, salt spray concentration 5 times that of inland areas), the voltage regulator housing is made of 316L stainless steel plate, and the salt spray corrosion resistance is increased by 40% after passivation treatment.
The dense oxide film formed on the surface of the plate effectively resists chloride ion corrosion, ensuring that the equipment can operate stably under the extreme conditions of ±25% voltage fluctuation of the Vietnamese power grid, and the service life is extended by more than 10 years compared with ordinary carbon steel.
