Monel 405 (also known as UNS N04405 or Monel® R-405) coils and strips are free-machining nickel-copper alloy products designed for high-precision automatic screw machine parts.
Key Properties
• Composition: A nickel-copper alloy with a controlled addition of sulfur to act as a chip breaker during machining.
• Machinability: Offers much better machinability than standard Monel 400.
• Corrosion Resistance: Resists seawater, steam, salt solutions, and reducing acids (like hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids).
• Limitations: Not generally recommended for welding due to the controlled sulfur content. It can only be hardened by cold working.
