What is Permalloy 80 Sheet?
Permalloy 80, also known as Ni80Fe20, is a high-nickel soft magnetic alloy with approximately 80% nickel and 20% iron. It is characterized by high initial permeability, low coercivity, and excellent magnetic shielding properties. Permalloy 80 Sheet (UNS N14080), a high-nickel soft magnetic alloy, offers a maximum permeability of up to 200,000, enabling efficient magnetic flux conduction in low- to mid-frequency ranges. With an extremely low coercivity of 0.02–0.04 A/m, it ensures rapid response to magnetic field changes. Its high electrical resistivity (580 µΩ·mm) effectively suppresses eddy current losses, making it especially suitable for precision applications such as high-frequency transformers and magnetic sensors below 1 MHz.
After proper annealing, Permalloy 80 achieves a tensile strength of ≥100,000 psi while maintaining excellent cold workability for deep drawing and spinning processes. It can be formed into ultra-thin strips as thin as 0.01 mm or complex shielding enclosures. Magnetic properties remain stable across a wide temperature range from -40°C to 125°C, with fluctuations under 1%. With a Curie temperature of 460°C-significantly higher than ferrite materials-and resistance to salt spray corrosion, the alloy is well-suited for harsh environments in aerospace and medical equipment.
