Technically, the microstructure of a Duplex 2205 Tube is about 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. Therefore the properties inherited from both these categories makes this nitrogen enhanced Duplex 2205 Seamless Tube well suited for use in industries like Food processing, Oil field piping and heat exchangers as well as Flue gas desulfurization. The temperature in heat exchanges are often elevated, as they work on the principle of heat transference. Though the A789 Tubing can hold its own at elevated temperatures, using it beyond a temperature of 600° F is not recommended. At temperatures higher than 600° F, the Duplex 2205 Tube could become brittle and get decayed.
This aside, the alloy of ASTM A789 UNS S31803 is a cost-effective solution for many purposes, especially since stainless steels belonging to 300 series tend to be sensitive to chloride ion stress related corrosion cracking. The ASTM A789 is a specification which satisfies approved requirements for grades of nominal wall thickness, Duplex pipe for those applications which require properties such as - resistance to general corrosion. The specification also places critical emphasis on the resistance of ASTM A789 UNS S32205 to stress related corrosion cracking.
