The production of stainless steel 904L pipes involves using high-quality raw materials and cutting-edge machinery. The main components of this alloy are chromium and nickel, and its low carbon concentration (indicated by the “L”) provides excellent welding properties and resistance to carbide precipitation. Adding other chemical components, such as manganese, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, and molybdenum, enhances the metal’s anti-corrosive qualities, making it resistant to water corrosion and damp environments.
The enhanced chemical composition of the 904L grade corresponds to its mechanical capabilities. It has a solid structure with a minimum tensile strength of 490 MPa, primary yield strength of 220 MPa, and a Rockwell B hardness of 70-90. This makes it adaptable to various applications, including the pulp and paper industries, construction, hardware, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, heat exchangers, power plants, and saltwater environments. It can even withstand extreme temperatures, although it may shatter under stress.
