Our TP316 stainless steel seamless pipes are austenitic stainless steels containing 2–3% molybdenum, offering excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-containing environments. Each pipe is manufactured through cold drawing or hot rolling processes and undergoes solution annealing above 1040°C followed by rapid water quenching to optimize the crystal structure and ensure a grain size of 7 or larger. This enables the pipes to meet strict mechanical property requirements, such as tensile strength ≥ 75,000 psi, and hardness requirements of ≤ 192 HBW.

 

ASTM A213 TP316 pipes are suitable for high-temperature service conditions. What is the difference between ASTM A213 TP316 and ASTM A213 TP316L ?

The primary difference between ASTM A213 TP316 and TP316L is the carbon content: TP316L ("L" for Low) contains a maximum of 0.035% carbon, while standard TP316 allows up to 0.08%. This lower carbon makes TP316L more resistant to intergranular corrosion after welding and offers better high-temperature toughness, whereas standard TP316 has slightly higher tensile strength.

A chemical plant operated a heat exchanger system for processing dilute sulfuric acid solutions containing trace amounts of chlorides. The system originally used TP304 material, but severe pitting corrosion occurred within less than one year of operation, resulting in pipe leakage.

Procurement Recommendations: For applications involving extremely high welding volumes, it is recommended to replace TP316 in the example with TP316L (low-carbon version) to prevent intergranular corrosion in the weld heat-affected zone. For ultra-high temperature applications (above 700°C), TP310S or nickel-based alloys may need to be considered.

 

To ensure quality, steel pipes typically undergo the following tests before leaving the factory:

Tensile test: checks strength and plasticity.

Hardness test: ensures material uniformity.

Flattening test.

Flaring test.

Hydrostatic test or non-destructive testing (NDT) (such as eddy current or ultrasonic testing).

High-quality packaging

All our stainless steel seamless tubing is packaged according to international standards to prevent any possible damage or loss. By default, we bundle the finished tubing together in batches using thick woven plastic bags.

For some special tubing that is easily contaminated, scratched, subjected to pressure, or easily damaged during handling, we recommend using wooden crates for protection.
