What is the maximum operating temperature for ASTM A312 TP316L piping?
The maximum service temperature for TP316L in oxidizing environments is approximately 870°C. However, under sustained high-temperature conditions exceeding 425°C, its strength decreases significantly; in such cases, pressure reduction design must be implemented in accordance with the ASME B31.3 Pressure Piping Code.
What are the main differences between TP316L and TP316?
The primary difference between TP316L and TP316 lies in their carbon content: TP316L is a "very low carbon" variant (carbon content ≤ 0.035%), designed to prevent carbide precipitation during welding and thereby enhance the corrosion resistance of welded components. TP316 features a higher carbon content (carbon content ≤ 0.08%) and consequently exhibits slightly higher strength. Both materials are typically dual-certified.

Packaging
Plastic Caps: Heavy-duty end caps must be applied to prevent dust, moisture, or foreign debris from entering the interior of the pipes.
Individual Sleeving: Each pipe is individually wrapped in plastic film to prevent surface scratches caused by friction between pipes during transit.
Small Diameter Pipes: Bundled in a hexagonal configuration and wrapped externally with waterproof woven fabric.
Large Diameter / Thin-Walled Pipes: The use of fumigation-free wooden crates is strongly recommended. U-shaped wooden supports should be added inside the crates to prevent pipe deformation under pressure during sea transport.
