904L stainless steel is composed of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and copper. These elements give 904L stainless steel excellent resistance to dilute sulfuric acid corrosion due to the addition of copper. 904L is usually used in high pressure and corrosive environments, while 316L and 317L do not perform well.
904L has high nickel content and low carbon content. The addition of copper alloy improves its corrosion resistance. The "L" in 904L stands for low carbon and is a typical super austenitic stainless steel. The equivalent grades are DIN 1.4539 and UNS N08904. 904L has better properties than other austenitic stainless steels.
