From the perspective of chemical composition, the chromium, nickel, and molybdenum contents of 317L stainless steel pipes are 2%, 1%, and 1% higher than those of 316L stainless steel pipes respectively. These three are the main elements that determine the performance of stainless steel pipes. Reflected in the pitting corrosion resistance, the performance of 317L stainless steel is better than that of 304L and 316L stainless steel.
The corrosion resistance of 317L stainless steel is similar to that of 316L stainless steel. The high molybdenum content ensures better overall and local corrosion resistance to most media such as sulfuric acid, acid chlorine and phosphoric acid. In strong oxidizing acids such as nitric acid, 317L stainless steel is easily corroded.
The performance of 317L stainless steel is basically the same as that of 317 stainless steel. Due to the lower carbon content, the welding performance and intergranular corrosion resistance of 317L stainless steel pipes at high temperatures (427~816°C) are better than those of 317 stainless steel pipes.
