The low carbon content of Alloy 317L renders it immune to intergranular corrosion due to chromium carbide precipitation during welding, allowing it to be used in the welded condition. With the addition of nitrogen as a strengthening agent, the alloy can be dual certified as Alloy 317 (UNS S31700).
321H stainless steel is a widely used stainless steel where parts are heated and exposed to corrosive atmospheres within the carbide precipitation temperature range (800°F-1500°F).
347 also has better resistance to creep and stress crack corrosion. This is another advantage of the Type 304, as the characteristics of the 347 may be better suited to environments where stability is a primary concern.

Product Feature
In the point of chemical composition, the chromium, nickel and molybdenum contents of 317L stain steel pipe are increased by 2%, 1%, and 1% compare to 316L seamless piping. The threes are the main elements that determine the performance of stainless steel pipe. Reflected in the Pitting corrosion resistance, the performance of 317L ss steel is better than 304L and 316L stainless steel.
The corrosion resistance of 317L stainless is similar to 316L stainless pipe . The high molybdenum content ensures that it has a better resistance to overall and local corrosion for most media – such as sulfuric acid, acid chlorine and phosphoric acid. In strong oxidizing acids such as nitric acid, 317L seamless stainless steel is susceptible to corrosion.
The performance of the 317L ss pipe seamless is basically the same as 317 ss steel. Due to the lower carbon content, the welding performance of 317L ss pipe and the intergranular corrosion resistance performance at high temperature (427~816 °C) are better than 317 ss pipe.
