The 304 stainless steel heat exchanger tubes we supply are manufactured from cold-rolled stainless steel strip through a complete production process including high-frequency welding, continuous heat treatment, sizing, straightening, and comprehensive online testing such as eddy current inspection. What is the difference between ASTM A249 and ASTM A213 ?
ASTM A249 covers welded austenitic stainless steel tubing, whereas ASTM A213 covers seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy steel tubing. Both are used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications, such as boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers.
Does ASTM A249 welded pipe require heat treatment?
Yes. ASTM A249 stipulates that all piping must be supplied in the solution-annealed condition. The pipe must be heated to above 1040°C and rapidly quenched to relieve welding stresses and restore corrosion resistance.
Why is a "Minimum Wall" thickness typically specified for heat exchanger tubes?
In heat exchanger design, wall thickness is directly related to pressure-bearing safety. While the ASTM A249 standard defaults to "Average Wall" thickness, a purchaser can specify "Minimum Wall" (MW) in the contract to ensure that the thickness at any point along the tube does not fall below the design requirements.

Packaging
Plastic Caps: Both ends of each tube must be fitted with secure plastic caps.
Function: Protection against damage and contamination.
