If you are looking for high-efficiency condenser tubes that can operate stably for extended periods under conditions of high-temperature thermal cycling, moderate corrosion, and high vibration resistance, TP321 (UNS S32100/EN1.4541) is specifically designed for power plant condensers, shell-and-tube heat exchangers, boilers, and superheaters-equipment with stringent requirements for heat transfer efficiency, thermal strength, and weld reliability.

What is ASTM A249 TP321 stainless steel tube?

ASTM A249 TP321 weldable stainless steel tube is a titanium-stabilized austenitic steel tube. The addition of titanium prevents the precipitation of chromium carbides during welding, completely inhibiting the precipitation of chromium carbides in the sensitization temperature range of 427°C-816°C. This eliminates the risk of intergranular corrosion in the weld heat-affected zone and during high-temperature operation, and provides continuous oxidation resistance up to 800°C-850°C.

Furthermore, ASTM A249 TP321 heat exchanger tubes possess high-temperature creep rupture strength exceeding that of 304L/316L tubes, with a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa, elongation ≥35%, and hardness controlled at ≤90 HRB (≤200 HV). High toughness and good plasticity ensure that the tubes are not prone to fatigue fracture under high-frequency fluid-induced vibrations and cyclic thermal stresses in condensers, and also support expansion joints and bending without cracking.

ASTM A249 TP321 Stainless Steel Tube Supplier and Manufacturer

Our ASTM A249 TP321 tubes are manufactured from premium-grade stainless steel strips using high-precision forming and advanced welding techniques, such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or laser welding. Following the welding process, the tubes undergo solution annealing and pickling (or bright annealing) to eliminate residual welding stresses. The strength and corrosion resistance of the weld seam are fully equal to those of the base metal. Furthermore, the weld-to-base metal hardness ratio is strictly controlled at R ≤ 1.25, ensuring that the weld zone does not become a vulnerable hotspot for corrosion in condenser cooling water environments.

Applications

Heaters, boilers, superheaters, heat exchangers, condensers, and dairy/food processing equipment - anywhere welding plus elevated-temperature service would sensitize unstabilized austenitic grades.

ASTM A249 TP321 Stainless Steel Welded Tubes price per ton

FAQ

What is the difference between TP321 and TP304?
In the temperature range of 427°C to 816°C (800°F to 1500°F), TP304 is prone to "sensitization," which leads to intergranular corrosion; in contrast, thanks to the protective effect of titanium, TP321 maintains excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion even during prolonged operation or welding within this temperature range.

How is the weld bead managed in A249 TP321 welded tubes?
According to ASTM A249 standards, welded tubes must undergo cold working before heat treatment, typically sinking or drawing.
Smoothing: The inner weld bead is usually flattened or removed (bead worked) to smooth the inner and outer diameters of the tube, reducing turbulence and scale corrosion during fluid flow, which is crucial for condenser heat exchange efficiency.

Which welding consumables are used for TP321?
ER321 or ER347 (niobium-stabilized) welding wire is typically used in the manufacture of welded tubes or for field repairs. They provide corrosion resistance and mechanical properties matching the base material.

How to ensure the received pipes comply with TP321 standards?
Check the Material Certificate (MTC): Confirm that the Ti content in the chemical composition meets the requirement of 5 × (C + N).
Intergranular corrosion test: It is recommended to require an intergranular corrosion test according to ASTM A262 Practice E. This is the most direct method to verify the "stabilization" effect of TP321.
