254 SMO Plate is a type of austenitic steel. Austenitic steel is a type of stainless steel which contains low amounts of carbon only up to 0.8% in weight. ASTM A240 UNS S31254 is a specification of austenitic steel. 254 SMO Sheet is a very high end stainless steel that it has the mechanical properties with values almost twice the values of the 300 series steels in most cases. 254 SMO Stainless Steel Plate has a high impact resistance and toughness, corrosion resistance under high chloride ion conditions, crevice corrosion resistance, pitting resistance and very high tensile strength.
What is 254 SMO Plate?
SA 240 UNS S31254 can even be applied as a substitute to high nickel titanium alloys due to its low cost compared to the titanium alloys. Unlike a few variations of the super alloys, ASTM A240 UNS S31254 could be easily welded and we work hardened. 254 SMO Plate contains molybdenum, chromium and nickel in high percentages which gives it extra ordinary corrosion resistance and strength. UNS S31254 Plate can be machined. But due to the high work hardening and lack of sulfur content, machining on 254 SMO Duplex Sheet is quite tough. It is achieved only with the use of overpowered machine tools, good lubrication, very sharp apparatus and slow speed processing.
254 SMO Duplex Coil could be used in places where impact resistance is key. SA 240 UNS S31254 Sheet can be welded. But welding Alloy 254 SMO Sheet can be done efficiently with some filler material. Without fillers 254 SMO UNS S31254 Flat Plate might result in lower strength properties after welding.
Alloy 254 Stainless Steel Strips could be used along with shims where tightness and toughness is needed together. 254 SMO Plate is also referred to as 254 SMO 6 Moly Sheet or 254 SMO 6mo Sheet to mention the molybdenum content of the material. For applications which require a pleasing look, 254 SMO 1.4547 Polish Plate could be used.
