The Stainless Steel 904L Plate material is an austenitic steel , which comes with added molybdenum. It has superior resistance to localized attacks and it shows good resistance in the sulphuric acid environments. The SS 904l Plate also resists chloride related stress corrosion cracking and due to its low carbon content, it is resistant to sensitization by welding, which in turn, prevents intergranular corrosion.
The 904L grade contains more nickel, chromium and molybdenum in its alloy, along with other elements like manganese, copper and silicon, compared to the 316L ss. This makes 904L more resistant to corrosion than 316L ss. The 904L has a higher price as processing it is much harder compared to the 316L grade.
