Is annealed 2205 steel plate magnetic?
Since 2205 steel contains approximately 50% ferrite phase (and ferrite is magnetic), 2205 steel plate exhibits distinct magnetic properties. This differs fundamentally from purely austenitic stainless steels such as 304 or 316, which are typically non-magnetic or only weakly magnetic.
What are the differences between 316L and 2205 stainless steel plates?
Strength: The yield strength of 2205 is approximately 450 MPa, more than double that of 316L (approx. 200–220 MPa).
Resistance to Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC): 2205 offers excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, whereas 316L is highly susceptible to failure in such environments.
Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN): The PREN value for 2205 ranges from 34 to 36, while that of 316L is approximately 24–25.
