1.4919 Stainless Steel Chemical Composition

What is 1.4919 stainless steel?

1.4919 stainless steel (also known as X22CrMoV12-1, conforming to EN standards) is a high-temperature martensitic stainless steel widely used in steam turbines, power plants, boiler components, high-temperature shafts, and petrochemical equipment.

What is the chemical composition of 316H stainless steel?

316H is high carbon chromium stainless steel. It contains 0.04- 0.10% carbon with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum as alloying agents.

C Si Mn Ni P S Cr Mo N B

Is 1.4919 corrosion resistant?

Yes, 1.4919 (AISI 316H / EN X5CrNiMo17-12-2) has strong corrosion resistance, with a pitting equivalent (PREN) of approximately 23–27. It reliably resists corrosion from oxidizing acids, atmospheric corrosion, and chlorine-containing environments. However, its resistance to chlorine-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking is lower than that of molybdenum-rich super austenitic stainless steel, therefore it is mainly used for high-temperature, high-strength applications rather than corrosive media.

Mechanical Properties of 1.4919 Stainless Steel

Property Value
Tensile Strength (Rm) 900 – 1050 MPa
Yield Strength (Rp0.2) ≥ 650 MPa
Elongation (%) ≥ 14%
Impact Energy (KV at RT) ≥ 27 J
Hardness 260 – 300 HB
Density 7.7 g/cm³
Working Temperature Range Up to 620–650°C

1.4919 is specifically engineered for high-temperature creep resistance, making it superior to standard austenitic grades like 304/316 in power plant and turbine applications.

What is the maximum working temperature of 1.4919?

For 1.4919 (316H stainless steel), the maximum working temperature depends on the service: up to 925°C (1700°F) for continuous use in air, but it's limited to around 870°C (1600°F) or lower for intermittent service due to creep/sensitization risks, though it's suitable for high temps (above 500°C) in specific applications like power generation and chemical processing.

1.4919 Stainless Steel Price per kg (2025)
The price of 1.4919 stainless steel (2025) currently ranges from $5.50/kg to $9.50/kg, depending on the product form (seamless tube, pipe, bar, or plate), dimensions (outer diameter, wall thickness), surface treatment (e.g., 2B, pickling, bright annealing), and order quantity. For products conforming to EN 1.4919/UNS S31609 standards, large-diameter seamless tubes (DN200-DN600) are typically more expensive (approximately $7.90/kg to $9.50/kg). Furthermore, market fluctuations in nickel (accounting for 16-20% of the alloy cost) and chromium continue to influence price differences among global suppliers.

What's the difference between 1.4919 stainless steel and 1.4935?

1.4919 (316H) is an austenitic grade (like 316) for high temps but 1.4935 (X20CrMoWV12-1, AISI 422) is a martensitic, high-strength, creep-resistant steel with added Tungsten (W) and Vanadium (V), making it much tougher for extreme heat/pressure, while 1.4919 focuses on general high-temp corrosion resistance with Molybdenum (Mo) but less elemental strength than 1.4935. Think of 1.4919 as enhanced 316 for heat, and 1.4935 as a specialized, super-strong turbine/boiler steel.
