201 J4 stainless steel coils and sheets

201 J4 stainless steel coil is an economical 200-series austenitic stainless steel material, a sub-grade of 201 stainless steel. It uses high-manganese nitrogen alloying to replace some nickel, balancing cost advantages with good formability and corrosion resistance. It is widely used in building decoration, kitchenware, and general light industry.

201 J4 stainless steel cold-rolled coil contains 15.5-16.5% chromium (Cr), 1.2-1.8% nickel (Ni), 5.5-7.0% manganese (Mn), and 0.18-0.25% nitrogen (N). The nickel content is higher than 201 J1/J2/J5, and its strength and corrosion resistance are superior to ordinary low-nickel 201. Although lower than 304 stainless steel, it is sufficient to withstand normal atmospheric and weakly corrosive environments. In terms of mechanical properties: tensile strength ≥550MPa, yield strength ≥280MPa, elongation ≥40%. It has excellent cold bending and stamping formability, suitable for processing complex shapes.

We supply 201 J4 cold-rolled coils with a standard thickness of 0.3-3.0mm and a maximum width of 1250mm. Hot-rolled coils range from 4-12mm in thickness. Common surface finishes are 2B cold-rolled and No.1 hot-rolled, and post-processing options include brushed and mirror finishes.

Chemical Composition (Weight %)

The J4 variant is characterized by its high Manganese and Copper content, which enhances its formability.

Element Carbon (C) Manganese (Mn) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S) Silicon (Si) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Copper (Cu) Nitrogen (N)
Value ≤ 0.15 8.50 - 10.5 ≤ 0.060 ≤ 0.030 ≤ 0.75 15.0 - 16.0 1.0 - 1.5 1.5 - 2.0 ≤ 0.20

Mechanical Properties

The presence of Copper in J4 reduces work hardening, making it excellent for manufacturing kitchenware and deep-drawn items.

Property Value (Typical)
Tensile Strength (Rm) ≥ 520 MPa
Yield Strength (Rp 0.2) ≥ 245 MPa
Elongation (A80mm) ≥ 40%
Hardness (HRB) ≤ 90
Hardness (HV) ≤ 210

Applications of 201 J4 Stainless Steel Coils:

Architectural Decoration: Elevator panels, stair handrails, door decorations, curtain walls
Light Industrial Products: Sinks, kitchenware, dining tables, appliance housings
General Industry: Containers, pipe linings, shelves, structural components with low corrosion resistance requirements.

What is the difference between 201 J4 and 201 J5 stainless steel coils?

J4 has a higher nickel content, resulting in better rust resistance than low-nickel variants like 201 J5. It is 20-30% cheaper than 304 stainless steel, offering excellent value. However, it is not suitable for long-term exposure to humid, high-chlorine environments (such as coastal outdoor environments) or acidic environments. For such scenarios, upgrading to 304 stainless steel is recommended.

201 J4 Stainless Steel Coils Price

The price of 201 J4 stainless steel coils typically ranges from $850 to $1,350 per metric ton, depending on factors such as thickness, surface finish, and order quantity. Since Grade J4 stainless steel features a higher copper content and a lower carbon content compared to grades J1, J2, and J3, its selling price is generally slightly higher.

Professional Packaging:

We offer the option of single or double-layer 7C/10C protective films to ensure that the surface of our cold-rolled coils remains free of scratches throughout the transportation and stamping processes. Furthermore, we utilize reinforced packaging-featuring thickened waterproof paper, steel strapping, and sturdy wooden pallet supports,to prevent moisture ingress during sea freight, thereby eliminating the risk of "surface rust" (flash rust) on the 201 stainless steel.
