4. Corrosion Resistance
Intergranular Corrosion:
Excellent resistance due to titanium stabilization (prevents chromium carbide precipitation).
Welded components do not require post-weld annealing.
Oxidation Resistance:
Continuous service up to 925°C (1700°F).
Pitting/Slcrevice Corrosion:
Moderate resistance; comparable to 304/304L stainless steel.
5. Heat Treatment
Solution Annealing:
Heat to 950–1120°C (1740–2050°F), quench in water.
Stabilization Annealing (Optional):
870–900°C (1598–1652°F) for 1 hour per 25 mm thickness, air-cooled.
6. Welding Recommendations
Processes: TIG, MIG, SMAW, Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), Laser.
Filler Metal: AWS ER347 (matching Nb-Ta content).
Preheat/Post-Weld: Not required; avoid excessive heat input.
7. Applications
Aerospace components (e.g., jet engine parts)
Heat exchangers, boilers, and pressure vessels
Chemical processing equipment
Nuclear reactor parts
Automotive exhaust systems
High-temperature fasteners
