410 Stainless Steel VS 201 Stainless Steel: The Biggest Difference?
Leave a message
410 stainless steel is a chromium steel stainless steel, in which the chromium content is 11.5% to 13.5%. It is a magnetic stainless steel with high strength and hardness, and good corrosion resistance.
In addition, 410 stainless steel has better hardness and wear resistance after quenching. Therefore, 410 stainless steel is often used in the manufacture of knives, industrial boilers, mechanical parts, automobile exhaust pipes and other fields.
Compared with 410 stainless steel, 201 stainless steel has less chromium content, only 16 to 18%. It is more corrosion-resistant, but has lower strength and hardness. 201 stainless steel has good toughness and cold working properties, and its mechanical properties can be improved by cold working. Due to its smooth surface and easy cleaning, 201 stainless steel is often used in kitchen equipment, making decorations and other fields.
201 and 410 stainless steel hardness level
The 201 stainless steel hardness level is equivalent to medium carbon steel, and the 410 stainless steel hardness level is equivalent to the upper limit of low carbon steel. 201 stainless steel has a carbon content of 0.5%, which is higher than 410. It is a grade in the 200 series of stainless steel. It has a high carbon content, high hardness, hard material, 15% chromium, and general anti-corrosion and anti-rust performance. 410 is a chromium-containing stainless steel, a grade in the 400 series of stainless steel. Because of the chromium content, it is harder than low-carbon steel with the same carbon content. The hardness of this material is lower than 201.
In summary, 410 stainless steel and 201 stainless steel each have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you need a stainless steel material that is resistant to high temperatures, high strength, and high hardness, 410 stainless steel will be a better choice. On the other hand, if you need a stainless steel material that is beautiful, smooth, and easy to clean, you should choose 201 stainless steel.
