ASME SB444 UNS N06625 Nickel Alloy Steel Seamless Tube

What is the ASTM B444 standard?

ASTM B444 is the standard specification for nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy (UNS N06625 and UNS N06852) and nickel-chromium-molybdenum-silicon alloy (UNS N06219) tubing. The products are cold-worked seamless tubing. UNS N06625 is available in both annealed Grade 1 and solution-annealed Grade 2 finishes, while UNS N06219 and UNS N06852 are only available in the solution-annealed finish.

GNEE manufactures cold-worked seamless pipes that meet ASTM B444 UNS N06625 standards, offering a wide range of sizes. UNS N06625 Inconel 625 is a non-magnetic nickel-based alloy containing a minimum of 58% nickel and at least 8% molybdenum. Its European equivalent is EN WNr 2.4856. This alloy provides exceptional corrosion resistance and maintains outstanding performance even under extreme conditions, from very low temperatures up to 1100°C.

Our stock of Inconel 625 seamless pipes is available in two grades (Grade 1 and Grade 2). ASTM B444 UNS N06625 Grade 1 pipes are supplied in the annealed condition, while Grade 2 pipes are provided in the solution-annealed condition. The outer diameter and nominal (or minimum) wall thickness of UNS N06625 pipes cover a broad range, with all dimensions conforming to standard pipe sizes and wall thickness schedules.

What is the difference between ASME SB444 Grade 1 and Grade 2?

Grade 1 (Annealed): Typically annealed at 1600°F (871°C) minimum. It offers higher tensile and yield strength. It is commonly used for service temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C).
Grade 2 (Solution Annealed): Solution annealed at 2000°F (1093°C) minimum. It is designed for service above 1100°F where resistance to creep and rupture is required.

What is the maximum service temperature for SB444 N06625 tubes?

It can be used from cryogenic temperatures up to 1800°F (982°C). However, for load-bearing applications at high temperatures, Grade 2 (Solution Annealed) must be specified to prevent creep.

Why is N06625 significantly more expensive than Stainless Steel 316L?

The price is driven by the high Nickel (approx. 60%) and Molybdenum (9%) content. These elements are much more expensive than the iron and chromium used in stainless steel. However, the lifespan in corrosive environments often makes it more cost-effective over time.

Quality Inspection

GNEE performs strict inspection for ASME SB444 UNS N06625 Nickel Alloy Seamless Tubes in accordance with SB444/ASTM B444 requirements. Each tube can undergo chemical composition verification, tensile testing, dimensional inspection, visual examination, and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric testing. ASTM B444 requires each pipe or tube to receive hydrostatic or nondestructive electric examination, while tensile properties are verified according to the supplied heat-treatment condition. Inspection results are documented in an EN 10204 3.1 MTC for batch traceability.
