1. Differences in ingredients:
420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel containing at least 12% chromium, has a higher carbon content and is designed to optimize strength and hardness properties.
316 stainless steel adds 2%-3% molybdenum element on the basis of 304 stainless steel, and also contains higher chromium and nickel components, which enhances its corrosion resistance.
2. Performance differences:
420 stainless steel has high hardness and wear resistance, but its corrosion resistance is relatively low. It may lose ductility especially at low temperatures, and overheating at high temperatures will reduce its strength. It is not usually welded because of its air hardening properties,
316 stainless steel is known for its excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, especially in marine environments and acidic environments. It also has good plasticity, toughness, cold deformation and welding process properties.
