What is STS310 stainless steel?
STS310S stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with a main chemical composition of high chromium (about 25%) and nickel (about 20%). It can be used continuously at temperatures up to 1150°C and has excellent oxidation resistance. It is used to manufacture electric furnace tubes, heat treatment furnaces, burners, kilns, radiant tubes, boiler superheaters and reheater tubes, etc.

What is the standards for STS310S stainless steel?
STS310S products are manufactured according to international standards to ensure compatibility with global industrial applications: ASTM/ASME: A240, A249, A213
JIS: SUS310S
EN: 1.4845
UNS: S31008. All materials come with an MTC 3.1 certificate, traceable to the original heat, ensuring quality and compliance for critical applications.
Advantages of STS310S Stainless Steel
High-Temperature Resistance
STS310S stainless steel can operate continuously at temperatures up to 1150°C, and withstand short-term exposure up to 1200°C. Its high-temperature strength significantly exceeds that of common stainless steels such as 304 and 316. For example, at 800°C, it still maintains a tensile strength of approximately 100 MPa. Tests under cyclic heating and cooling conditions show that the surface oxidation rate of 310S is only about one-third that of ordinary stainless steel.
Corrosion Resistance
Beyond its high-temperature oxidation resistance, STS310S also exhibits excellent resistance to various corrosive media, with corrosion resistance 3–5 times higher than 304 stainless steel. However, caution is advised in strongly reducing acids (e.g., hydrochloric acid) and chloride-containing solutions. Comparative data from a chemical plant indicate that STS310S heat exchanger tubes exposed to chloride-containing flue gas have a service life 2.2 times longer than STS316L tubes.
Fabrication and Workability
STS310S exhibits notable work-hardening tendencies during cold processing, requiring high-power equipment and intermediate annealing for optimal results. Typical mechanical properties in the annealed state are: tensile strength ≥515 MPa, yield strength ≥205 MPa, elongation ≥40%. Welding is recommended using ER310 filler wire, with preheating between 150–200°C to prevent hot cracking.

| Element | C (%) | Si (%) | Mn (%) | P (%) | S (%) | Cr (%) | Ni (%) | Fe (Balance) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| STS310S | ≤0.08 | 0.75–1.50 | ≤2.00 | ≤0.045 | ≤0.03 | 24–26 | 19–22 | Balance |
This high Cr-Ni content provides excellent oxidation resistance and ensures stability at temperatures up to 1150°C for continuous operation.

Can STS310S be welded easily?
Yes, standard TIG or MIG welding is suitable with proper filler materials.
Is STS310S magnetic?
STS310S is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, suitable for applications where magnetism must be minimized.
What is the maximum temperature for STS310S?
The maximum operating temperature of STS310S is 1150°C (2100°F), which can reach 1200°C (2192°F) under certain conditions. Due to its high chromium and nickel content, it is ideal for continuous high-temperature applications and has superior corrosion resistance compared to grades such as 304 or 309.
Is STS310S more expensive than SUS304 or SUS316?
Yes. Current market price: $5-7/kg. STS310S is generally more expensive than SUS304 and SUS316 because of its higher nickel and chromium content, resulting in superior high-temperature resistance and oxidation resistance. While SUS304 is the cheapest of the three stainless steels, the price difference between SUS316 and STS310S depends on the specific application requirements.
For urgent needs, GNEE's biggest advantage lies in its readily available stock of most common sizes of STS310S stainless steel in its Chinese warehouses, including plates, coils, pipes, bars, and wires. This allows GNEE to quickly supply materials to the Middle East and North Africa, with bulk orders enjoying distributor pricing. Considering its export volume over the past 10 years, GNEE ranks among the top ten STS310S stainless steel exporters in China. GNEE only supplies materials conforming to EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTC standards.
STS310S stainless steel products are carefully rolled and packaged with moisture-proof measures, transported in wooden crates or pallets to prevent deformation and corrosion during transportation. Delivery time is typically 7-15 days, depending on quantity and specifications.
