Surface treatment technology of stainless steel coil and its quality influence

Stainless steel coil is made of stainless steel strip as the base material, and then processed into a long strip material. In industrial applications, the surface treatment technology of stainless steel coils plays a crucial role in its quality and service life. The following will introduce the stainless steel coil surface treatment technology and its quality effects.

First, the surface treatment process
The surface treatment process of stainless steel coil includes polishing, pickling, electroplating and sandblasting. Among them, the most commonly used are polishing and pickling. Polishing is generally divided into two types: mechanical polishing and chemical polishing. Mechanical polishing is mainly the use of machines to grind the surface of stainless steel coils to make its surface smooth and flat. Chemical polishing is the use of acidic solution to corrode the stainless steel coil, remove its surface oxide layer, and make its surface brighter. Pickling is to soak the stainless steel roll in a hydrochloric acid or nitric acid solution with an appropriate concentration, and remove the oxide scale and rust stains on the surface of the stainless steel through the corrosion effect of the acid solution. Electroplating uses electrolysis to deposit a layer of metal on the surface of stainless steel to enhance its corrosion resistance. Sandblasting is also a common surface treatment, which sands the surface of stainless steel by spraying sand to make its surface rough and increase the adhesion of stainless steel coils to other materials.

Second, the quality impact of surface treatment technology
Different surface treatment processes have a great influence on the quality of stainless steel coils. The polishing process can increase the brightness and finish of stainless steel materials, making them more aesthetically pleasing, but it is not very effective for removing deeper from oxide scale and rust stains. Although pickling can effectively remove oxide scale and rust stains on the surface of stainless steel coil, excessive pickling will lead to increased surface roughness of the material, increased passivation film defects, deformation and stress concentration. The stainless steel coil after electroplating has a great improvement in corrosion resistance, but the electroplating film is thin, and it is easy to produce contaminants caused by peeling and pickling, which require special treatment and are costly. Sandblasting can increase the surface roughness and adhesion of stainless steel coils, but will damage its surface finish.

Third, the conclusion
The surface treatment technology of stainless steel coil plays a vital role in its quality and service life. When selecting a surface treatment process, it is necessary to consider factors such as the use, requirements and cost of the material, and adopt appropriate technology for surface treatment. At the same time, in the process of surface treatment, it is necessary to pay attention to the operation specifications and construction environment to avoid safety accidents and environmental pollution.
