What is ASTM A312 TP 304L pipe ?
ASTM A312 TP 304L is a specification for low-carbon (C ≤ 0.03%) austenitic stainless steel pipe, designed specifically for high-temperature and corrosive service conditions; due to reduced carbide precipitation, this material exhibits excellent weldability. It is widely utilized across various industrial sectors-including chemical processing, food processing, and the oil and gas industry-primarily for the conveyance of liquid and gaseous media.
ASTM A312 TP 304L Stainless Steel Pipe Supplier
GNEE is an experienced supplier of boiler and pressure steel pipes, manufacturing and supplying both welded and seamless pipe products that comply with the ASTM A312 standard. We are able to provide you with ASTM A312 steel pipe products covering the full range of grades and dimensions.
We employ a precision manufacturing process that combines hot extrusion with cold drawing, supplemented by a solution annealing treatment at 1040–1100°C. This effectively eliminates internal stresses within the tubing and ensures a uniform and consistent material microstructure.

ASTM A312 TP304 stainless steel tubing contains 18.0–20.0% chromium and 8.0–12.0% nickel, featuring an ultra-low carbon content of ≤0.03%. This tubing maintains stable performance within an operating temperature range of -200°C to 450°C, making it fully suitable for long-term, safe operation.
Regarding dimensional accuracy and surface quality, our products feature an outer diameter tolerance controlled within ±0.02–0.4 mm, a wall thickness tolerance within ±10%, and a straightness of ≤0.5 mm/m, fully meeting the requirements for high-precision assembly applications.
Following pickling and passivation treatments, the tubing surface is smooth and clean, with a roughness (Ra) of ≤0.8 μm and no residual scale or impurities. This not only effectively retards the corrosion process but also fully satisfies the sanitary standards required for transport pipelines in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

FAQ
What is the technical significance of the "L" in TP304L?
The "L" stands for "Low Carbon." The carbon content in TP304L is strictly limited to a maximum of 0.030% (whereas standard TP304 allows up to 0.08%).
What is "Dual Certification" 304/304L?
Many manufacturers produce materials that simultaneously meet the high-strength requirements of TP304 and the low-carbon requirements of TP304L. This material is referred to as "304/304L Dual Certified" steel tubing. Possessing both the superior weldability of 304L and the high mechanical strength of 304, it is currently the most common form of supply available on the market.
Can TP304L be hardened through heat treatment?
No. TP304L is an austenitic stainless steel, and its hardness cannot be increased through heat treatment processes (such as quenching). The only method to increase its hardness is through cold working (work hardening)-for example, via cold drawing or cold rolling.
