When sourcing stainless steel, understanding material equivalency across standards is essential for accurate procurement and cost-effective decision-making. One of the most commonly requested grades is EN 10088-2 grade 1.4301-but what is it equivalent to in other international standards?
This article will help buyers, engineers, and procurement teams understand the equivalent grades of 1.4301 stainless steel, its key properties, and how to select the right alternative based on your region or technical requirements.
What Is EN 10088-2 Grade 1.4301 Material?
EN 1.4301, designated under EN 10088-2, is a non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel widely used for its excellent corrosion resistance, weldability, and good mechanical strength. It is commonly used in sheet, plate form across industries like food processing, architecture, household appliances, and chemical equipment.

Heat Treatment
Solution annealing: 1000 – 1100 ℃ (cooling: water, air)
Hot forming: 1200 – 900 ℃ (cooling: air)
Hardening
EN 1.4301 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but can be hardened by cold working.
What's the difference between 1.4301 and 1.4307?
1.4301 AISI 304 stainless steel has a high carbon content of 0.07%, while 1.4307 AISI 304L stainless steel has a carbon content of only 0.03%, which reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion in the heat affected zone during welding. As a result, 1.4307 stainless steel has excellent weldability and minimal post-weld annealing requirements.
Both 1.4301 AISI 304 and 1.4307 AISI 304L have comparable corrosion resistance, formability and mechanical properties for applications such as food processing, chemical equipment, building components and piping systems.
