If you are looking for high-purity, corrosion-resistant stainless steel for chemical, pharmaceutical, or semiconductor applications, Gnee can supply both EN 1.4435 and AISI 316L stainless steel plates, coils, and tubes with full certification and customized dimensions. We deliver precision stainless steel products with guaranteed composition consistency, traceable heat numbers, and international approvals (ISO, EN, ASTM, ASME).
What is 1.4435 stainless steel?
1.4435 is an austenitic stainless steel, also known as X2CrNiMo18-14-3 or high-nickel 316L. The equivalent of EN 1.4435 stainless steel is AISI 316L (commonly referred to as 316LMo or 316L urea steel), a high-grade low-carbon austenitic stainless steel similar to standard 316L (1.4404), but with greater corrosion resistance due to its higher molybdenum content. AISI 316L is renowned for its excellent corrosion resistance, especially in environments with high concentrations of chlorides, acids, and alkalis, and is widely used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries.
Is 1.4435 the same as 316L?
1.4435 stainless usually compeared with 316L (1.4404) stainless steel grade. 1.4435 material has a higher content of chromium, nickel and molibdenium and because of these elements, it is more resistant to corrosion then 316L (1.4404) grade.

Corrosion Resistance
Both 1.4404 and 1.4435 offer excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-rich environments (e.g., marine and chemical industries). 1.4435 offers better pitting resistance due to its lower phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) contents, but the difference between the two is minimal in most applications.
Machinability
1.4435 is easier to machine than 1.4404 due to its extremely low sulfur content (≤0.010%), which improves chip breaking and extends tool life.
Weldability and Formability
Both grades are easily welded and formable without cracking, but 1.4404 is more commonly used for welded structures due to its standard sulfur content. 1.4435 is preferred when machining parts requiring high precision and smooth surfaces (e.g., fittings and fasteners).
