Stainless steel pipe fittings 316SS and 316L are not very different in nature, they are both austenitic stainless steel. SS is the abbreviation of stainless steel, which stands for average. Both 316SS and 316L stainless steel contain molybdenum, and their comprehensive performance is better than 310 and 304 stainless steel.
316SS vs 316L stainless steel Heat resistance:
When the continuous use temperature is lower than 1600℃ and 1700℃, 316 stainless steel has good oxidation resistance. In the range of 800~1575℃, it is not suitable to use 316 stainless steel continuously, but when the continuous use temperature exceeds this range, stainless steel still has good heat resistance. 316L stainless steel has better resistance to carbide precipitation than 316 stainless steel, and can be used within a certain temperature range.
316SS vs 316L stainless steel heat treatment:
The annealing temperature of 316 stainless steel is in the range of 1850-2050℃, followed by rapid annealing and rapid cooling. 316 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
316SS vs 316L stainless steel welding performance:
316 stainless steel pipe fittings have good weldability and can be used with almost all welding methods. When welding, 316Cb, 316L stainless steel or 309Cb filler rods or rods can be selected for welding according to the purpose. For the best corrosion resistance, 316 stainless steel pipe fittings need to be welded after annealing treatment after cross-section welding. If 316L stainless steel is used, no post-weld annealing treatment is required.
316SS vs 316L stainless steel Corrosion resistance:
316 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance during manufacturing production, especially excellent in marine corrosion and industrial atmospheric erosion. The maximum carbon content of 316L stainless steel is 0.03, which can be used in applications where annealing is not required after welding and maximum corrosion resistance is required.
