What is the difference between hot rolling and cold rolling of stainless steel?
Stainless steel in the form of cold rolled, hot rolled coil or sheet factory, the thickness of the material varies due to different rolling methods, the general thickness is 0.3~13mm. Coil and plate can be directly provided to the user after the factory, can also be transported to the deep processing plant for further polishing, or made into a variety of finished products, semi-finished products, and then provided to wholesalers or users.
1 Stainless steel processing method
The production of stainless steel can be broadly divided into smelting (steelmaking and casting) and processing (billet, hot rolling, cold rolling, tube making, wire drawing, etc.) two stages. Steelmaking and casting are the key processes in the stainless steel production process, which not only determines the chemical composition of the steel produced, but also plays an important role in ensuring product quality, reducing production costs and improving production efficiency. Due to the characteristics of stainless steel and the special requirements for product quality, the front process of steelmaking and casting process and hot rolling, cold rolling, heat treatment and other rear processes have different characteristics from ordinary steel, a unique process system, and correspondingly adopted many new processes and equipment. The smelting and processing technology of stainless steel has developed rapidly compared with that of ordinary steel.
1.1 Stainless steel cold rolling
Cold rolling refers to the cold processing of steel plates or steel strips into various types of steel at room temperature through cold drawing, cold bending, cold drawing and other cold processing.
Cold rolling has the advantages of fast forming speed, high yield, and no damage to the coating, and can be made into a variety of cross section forms to meet the needs of use conditions; Cold rolling can produce great plastic deformation of steel, thus increasing the yield point of steel.
Another feature of stainless steel is that according to the use of different, cold-rolled plate has a variety of surface processing methods. In addition, there are pattern plates (that is, the use of embossing or etching methods to form a variety of pattern patterns on the surface to enhance the decorative effect), coloring plates (that is, the stainless steel soaked in some solution, so that the surface oxide film presents different colors) and coated plates.
These different surface processing methods make stainless steel widely used in architectural decoration, daily appliances and art.

1.2 Stainless steel hot rolling
Hot rolling can destroy the casting structure of the ingot, refine the grain of the steel, and eliminate the defects of the microstructure, so that the steel structure is dense and the mechanical properties are improved. This improvement is mainly reflected in the rolling direction, so that the steel is no longer isotropic to a certain extent; Bubbles, cracks and looseness formed during pouring can also be welded under high temperature and pressure.
The mechanical properties of stainless steel hot-rolled steel plate are far less than cold processing, but also inferior to forging processing, and the surface of hot-rolled stainless steel is rough and uneven, which limits its use in construction, so most stainless steel products are processed by cold rolling method.
