What material is 2205?
2205 is a grade of stainless steel, stainless steel according to the classification of microstructure can be divided into: martensitic steel, ferritic steel, austenitic steel, austenitic ferritic (duplex) stainless steel and precipitation hardening stainless steel.
2205 stainless steel is the most commonly used grade of austenitic ferritic (duplex) stainless steel.
Duplex stainless steel Standard No. 2205: ASTM A240/ A240M-01
Duplex stainless steel 2205 alloy is a duplex stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel nitrogen alloy. It has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local resistance to stress corrosion.

Stainless steel 2205 Chemical composition:
Carbon C: ≤0.03
Silicon Si: 1.0
Mn: ≤2.00
P: ≤0.03
Sulfur S: ≤0.02
Chromium Cr: 22-23
Nickel Ni: 4.5-6.5
Nitrogen N: ≤0.14-0.20
Molybdenum Mo: 3.0 -- 3.50
Stainless steel 2205 corrosion resistance:
Uniform corrosion: Due to chromium content (22%), molybdenum (3%) and nitrogen content (0.18%), the corrosion resistance of 2205 is better than that of 316L and 317L in most environments.
Local corrosion resistance: The content of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen in 2205 duplex stainless steel makes it have strong resistance to point corrosion and gap corrosion in oxidizing and acidic solutions.
Resistance to stress corrosion: The duplex microstructure of stainless steel helps to improve the resistance of stainless steel to stress corrosion cracking. At a certain temperature, tension, oxygen and chloride presence, austenitic stainless steel will have chloride stress corrosion. Because these conditions are not easy to control, the use of 304L, 316L and 317L is limited in this regard.
Corrosion fatigue resistance: The high strength and corrosion resistance of 2205 duplex steel make it have a high corrosion fatigue strength. Processing equipment is susceptible to corrosive environments and loading cycles, and the 2205 features are ideal for such applications.
