What is 15-5PH Stainless Steel?
15-5 PH (precipitation-hardening) stainless steel is a high-strength, high-toughness martensitic alloy whose properties can be further enhanced through heat treatment. Essentially a variant of 17-4 PH stainless steel, it is designed to improve transverse (thickness direction) toughness and can be fabricated into various practical product forms, including plates, coils, tubes, bars, and wires. Therefore, it is ideally suited for critical components in aerospace, oil and gas, and general industrial applications, such as fasteners, gears, shafts, and engine parts.
What is 15-5 PH material equivalent to?
15-5 PH stainless steel is a very common material for aerospace components. According to the EN standard, this grade is designated as 1.4545 or 1.4548 or X5CrNiCuNb15-5; according to the UNS standard, it is designated as UNS S15500. We can consider 15-5 PH stainless steel to be an improved version of 17-4 PH (630 - 1.4542) material.
