What Is a 316L Stainless Steel Round Bar?
A 316L stainless steel round bar is an ultra–low-carbon austenitic stainless steel material represented by grade 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (new designation 022Cr17Ni12Mo2). It corresponds to the Japanese grade SUS316L and is manufactured in accordance with national standards such as GB/T 1220. The product is available in bright bars and black bars, with size ranges covering diameters from 1 mm to 280 mm. It is produced through hot rolling, cold drawing, and other processes, and can be welded using all conventional welding methods without requiring post-weld annealing.

 

316L stainless steel round bars contain ≤0.03% carbon and have a chemical composition of 16–18% chromium, 12–15% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. Compared with 304 stainless steel, they offer superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. After solution heat treatment at 1010–1150°C, a stable austenitic structure is formed. The material has a tensile strength of ≥480–620 MPa and an elongation of ≥40%. In the solution-annealed condition, it is non-magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment; strength must be improved through cold working.
