Solution Treatment Of 1.4306 Stainless Steel Bar
Leave a message
1.4306 (corresponding to ANSI 304L) is an ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel. Its solution treatment is a key process to improve corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The following is an explanation from three aspects: process points, mechanism of action and application value:
1. Solution treatment process points
Heating temperature
Recommended range: 1010-1120℃ (need to be adjusted according to specific specifications).
Goal: Make carbides (such as Cr₂₃C₆) completely dissolved in the austenite matrix.
Hot holding time
Depends on the material thickness: usually 1-3 hours (such as 1.5 hours for a 50mm diameter bar). Ensure uniform cross-section temperature to avoid local overheating.
Cooling method
Rapid water quenching (or oil cooling): prevent carbides from re-precipitating during cooling and retain uniform austenite structure.
2. The core role of solution treatment
Eliminate the risk of intergranular corrosion
Ultra-low carbon design (≤0.03%) + solution treatment:
Inhibit the precipitation of carbides along the grain boundaries during welding or hot working, and avoid the formation of "chromium-poor areas".
Make the chromium element evenly distributed and restore the corrosion resistance of the material to acids, alkalis and salts.
Optimize mechanical properties
The austenite structure is uniform in the solid solution state, and the yield strength (≥205MPa) and elongation (≥40%) are balanced. Suitable for cold working (such as wire drawing and stamping), it still maintains good toughness after hardening. High temperature heating can eliminate cold working stress, improve surface finish, and provide a basis for subsequent polishing or passivation.
Standard reference
EN 10088-3 (stainless steel bars), ASTM A276 (304L).
Must meet the requirements of solid solution hardness ≤ 217HB and grain size ≥ Grade 5.
