What is 2B surface treatment?
2B surface treatment is a surface finishing method for stainless steel. It refers to a process where, after cold rolling, heat treatment, and pickling, the surface is finished with precision rolling to achieve a smooth, matte (frosted) finish. It is a very common surface treatment type, with low surface roughness, making it easy to perform secondary processing to obtain a brighter or brushed finish. Is SUS310S better than SUS304 for high temperature?
Yes. SUS310S performs significantly better than SUS304 in high-temperature environments, mainly because its high chromium (24–26%) and high nickel (19–22%) content give it much stronger oxidation resistance. SUS310S can operate continuously at 1100°C and intermittently at around 1050°C, while SUS304 is generally limited to ~870°C before experiencing scaling and strength loss. For any furnace, burner, or heat-treatment application above 900°C, SUS310S is clearly the more reliable choice.
What is the maximum temperature resistance of SUS310S?
SUS310S offers one of the highest temperature limits among commercial stainless steels, with a continuous service temperature of approximately 1100°C and an intermittent service temperature of 1050°C, depending on atmosphere and loading conditions.
Is SUS310S magnetic?
SUS310S is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition because it is a fully austenitic stainless steel with high Ni content. However, slight magnetism may appear after cold working or heavy forming, as deformation can create small amounts of martensitic structure. In general, its magnetic permeability remains low-typically μr ≈ 1.02–1.05-much lower than ferritic grades such as 430.
