Monel 404 Properties and Appearance
Monel 404 is a nickel-copper alloy known for high strength and excellent corrosion resistance to sea water, common acids and alkalis. This alloy has low permeability and good brazing characteristics. Monel 404 is also known as UNS N04404 and ASTM F96.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment
- Machinability – Appropriate for conventional machining techniques used on other iron alloys.
- Welding – Alloy 404 is appropriate for common welding techniques.
- Hot Working – 404 cannot be hot worked.
- Cold Working is done with standard tooling and soft die materials.
- Annealing – Anneal at 760°C (1400°F) for one hour.
