The ASTM A403 WP304 stainless steel butt-weld elbows are fittings used to change the direction of piping. They are made from 304 stainless steel, a chromium-nickel alloy, and are designed to be welded directly to other pipes. The main difference between WP304 and WP304L lies in their carbon content. WP304 has a maximum carbon content of 0.08%, while WP304L has a strictly limited maximum of 0.030%. Intergranular corrosion can occur when 304 stainless steel is exposed to the sensitization temperature range of 425°C to 850°C. The ultra-low carbon design of WP304L significantly reduces the precipitation of chromium carbides.
