How do I know what class my 317L Stainless Steel flange is?
Pressure ratings of flanges are important characteristics, which allow them to withstand distinct pressures across the system, as there is a gradual temperature rise. There are seven different flange pressure ratings as per ANSI and ASME standards. These pressures ratings are 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, and 2500. Usually, stainless steel flanges have the pressure rating printed on the flange. If the number is worn out, then the bolt holes will help in indicating the pressure rating of a flange. Apart from this measurement of the bolt circle diameter also helps in determining the class of the flange. For E.g a module having 4 bolt holes with a bolt hole circle 3½ or below is a 150 flange. Similarly, if a component has 4 bolt holes with a bolt hole circle 5 ¾ and above, it has a pressure rating of 2500.
