What is ASTM A789 UNS S31803?
UNS S31803 tubing is widely used in industries such as oil drilling, petrochemicals, marine engineering, and power generation. This alloy contains medium-carbon steel and consists of 50% ferrite and 50% austenite, possessing excellent mechanical properties and weldability. It is also known as 2205 stainless steel.
ASME SA789 S31803 seamless tubing is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel used in condensers and heat exchangers. It offers excellent resistance to pitting/crevice corrosion, high strength, and good fatigue life, combining the toughness of ferritic steel with the machinability of austenitic steel. It is an ideal choice for harsh corrosive environments where 300 series stainless steels are unsuitable. However, it should be noted that measures should be taken to avoid material embrittlement when used in high-temperature environments for extended periods.
