1.4410 vs. 1.4539 stainless steel:differences

What is the equivalent of 1.4410 stainless steel?

The equivalent of EN 1.4410 stainless steel is UNS S32750 and the commercial designation SAF 2507, which refers to the alloy 2507. It is also known by the ASTM grade F53 and the EN chemical designation X2CrNiMoN25-7-4. This material is a super duplex stainless steel.

What material is 1.4539 equivalent to?

904L stainless steel is one of the best stainless steel grade for corrosion resistance. This grade is written as 1.4539 or X1NiCrMoCu25-20-5 according to EN norm and it is written as UNS S08904 according to UNS norm.

1.4410 vs. 1.4539 stainless steel: key differences

1.4410 is a super-duplex stainless steel (UNS S32750) suitable for harsh environments such as oil platforms and chemical plants. In contrast, 1.4539 is a super-austenitic stainless steel (UNS S08904, AISI 904L) developed for superior corrosion resistance. The main difference between the two lies in their microstructure: 1.4410 has a mixed austenite and ferrite structure, while 1.4539 has an austenitic structure.

1.4410 vs. 1.4539 stainless steel: Corrosion resistance

EN 1.4539 (904L) offers superior corrosion resistance in a wider range of corrosive environments, particularly in halide-rich media, strong reducing acids, and many chemical processes, while EN 1.4410 (super duplex) is designed for chloride-containing environments and stress-corrosion cracking with high mechanical strength, making 1.4539 the more robust choice for extremely corrosive conditions that 1.4410 cannot handle.

1.4410 vs. 1.4539 stainless steel: Weldability

While 1.4410 has generally good weldability, 1.4539 has a sensitivity to hot cracking, requiring special welding instructions. 1.4410's super duplex composition and a balanced alloy content, including a sufficiently high austenite content in the heat-affected zone, prevent localized corrosion risks. In contrast, 1.4539, a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel, is highly suitable for welding with methods like TIG and laser welding due to its low carbon content and high ductility, making it easy to fabricate.
