1.4571 material properties

what  is 1.4571 material ?

1.4571 stainless steel (also known as AISI 316Ti / UNS S31635) is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel. The addition of titanium improves its performance in high-temperature and welding applications. It prevents intergranular corrosion after welding or prolonged exposure to high temperatures, making it a reliable material for chemical, energy, and industrial processing equipment.

1.4571 Material equivalents
1.4571 is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel, also known as 316Ti, UNS S31635, and EN X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2. It is designed to combine the corrosion resistance of 316 with resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding, thanks to Ti stabilization. Typical applications include chemical and process equipment, food and dairy, pipelines, and architectural components where both corrosion and moderate-high temperature performance are required.

What are the material properties of 1.4571?

1.4571 temperature range

Operating temperature: Suitable for continuous use up to approximately 550 °C; maintains good toughness at low temperatures (down to approximately –196 °C, depending on product form and test method).

1.4571 Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance:
Excellent corrosion resistance in natural water and low-chloride media; resistant to intergranular corrosion in both the as-supplied and welded conditions due to titanium stabilization. Susceptible to pitting/crevice corrosion in seawater/high-salt environments; PREN value typically in the range of 23-27.

Is 1.4571 stainless steel magnetic?
1.4571 stainless steel is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed state; slight magnetism may be observed after cold working.

1.4571 Stainless Steel Machinability:
Easily welded using common processes (gas welding should generally be avoided); if filler material is required, 1.4430 is usually recommended; good corrosion resistance is achieved without post-weld heat treatment. Typical forging temperature range is 1180–950 °C, forging after preheating to 1150–1180 °C, and water quenching can be used for thicker sections. Machinability is moderate to poor due to Ti(C,N) precipitates causing tool wear; sharp tools, low cutting speeds, and ample coolant should be used.

What is the difference between 1.4571 and 1.4404 stainless steel?
The corrosion behaviour of the two grades 1.4571 and 1.4404 is in general very similar. Only a few substantial differences are to mention: The titan-stabilized 1.4571 has a higher sensitivity for pitting corrosion. Therefore, the same grade is less consistent against (chloride-induced) stress corrosion cracking.

Stainless steel 1.4571 vs 316

The key difference lies in the addition of titanium (0.4-0.7%), which can combine with carbon. Therefore, 1.4571 is ideal for environments requiring high heat resistance, whereas 316/316L might experience sensitization and corrosion in such conditions. However, in general modern manufacturing, standard 316L is usually preferred.

1.4571 stainless steel, also known as 316Ti or 316T, is widely used in industrial applications due to its high corrosion resistance and high-temperature properties. Common applications of 310 stainless steel include:
Chemical processing
Marine engineering
Oil and gas
Power generation
Food and pharmaceutical processing
