What Is Aluminized Steel?

Aluminized steel is carbon steel coated with a layer of aluminum-silicon alloy. It provides surface corrosion protection and high thermal reflectivity, but the underlying steel is not stainless and may corrode if the coating is damaged.

Although aluminized steel is inexpensive, it is more suitable for shorter service life, lower temperature or non-structural parts, such as muffler housings and heat shields.
