What is ASTM A179/ ASME SA179 ?
ASTM A179 specification covers minimum wall thickness seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes intended for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and other heat transfer equipment, as well as large heater and pressure vessel applications.
Manufactured using the cold drawing process, ASTM A179 carbon steel tubes maintain a carbon content of ≤0.06% to ensure high ductility and weldability. The material achieves a tensile strength of 330-480MPa, yield strength of ≥175MPa, and elongation of ≥30%. A179 cold-drawn carbon steel tubes undergo heat treatment and final chemical analysis to meet specified requirements for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. Additionally, they are subjected to hardness tests, flattening tests, flaring tests, flange tests, and hydrostatic pressure tests to validate quality.
