ASTM A312 pipe Standard Specification.pdf
What is ASTM A312 stainless steel?
ASTM A312 is a standard specification for seamless, welded, and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel tubes used in high-temperature and generally corrosive environments. It covers a variety of grades, such as the common TP304 and TP316, TP321, and TP347, and includes specifications for different manufacturing methods, material properties, and heat treatment processes. These sizes also apply to heavily cold-worked tubes. Other sizes of tubes are permitted to be ordered and supplied, provided that the tube meets all other requirements of this specification.
For tubes manufactured using seamless processes with a nominal wall thickness greater than 9.5 mm, the strength requirements for grades TP321 and TP321H are lower.
What material is A312 equivalent to?
ASTM A312 is a standard for austenitic stainless steel pipes, and it corresponds to a range of material grades such as TP304, TP316, TP321, and TP347. Equivalents to these specific grades exist in other international standards, including German (DIN) numbers like 1.4301 (for 304) and 1.4401 (for 316), and American (UNS) numbers like S30400 (for 304) and S31600 (for 316).

What is the difference between ASTM A312 and ss316?
ASTM A312 TP 316 ERW Pipe is used in structural applications such as handrails, architectural support, and machine support for processing equipment. 316 SS Welded Pipe is widely used for structural applications. Whereas, 316 Stainless Steel Seamless Tubing is used for pressure applications.
What is the difference between ASTM A312 and A269?
ASTM A312 is for pipe in high-temperature and general corrosive service, while ASTM A269 is for tubing for low/high-temperature and general corrosive service. The main difference is their intended application: A312 is for heavier-duty piping, and A269 is for more general-purpose tubing.
