ASTM A312 UNS S30815 253MA Stainless Steel Pipe

ASTM A312 UNS S30815 (253MA®) stainless steel pipe is a high-temperature alloy known for excellent oxidation and creep resistance, offering a good alternative to more expensive nickel-based alloys. It achieves these properties through controlled additions of silicon, nitrogen, and cerium, which form a stable oxide layer and enhance strength at temperatures up to 1150°C. Typical applications include furnace components, heat exchangers, and petrochemical equipment where high heat and aggressive environments are common.

What is the difference between 253ma and 316 stainless steel?

The micro alloy addition of cerium as well as silicon gives RA 253 MA good oxidation resistance up to 2000°F. 304 and 316 stainless steels are only oxidation resistant to 1600°F. RA 253 MA is ASME section VIII, Div 1 approved for pressure vessels up to 1650°F, while 304 and 316 are only approved up to 1500°F.
