ASTM A358 CL1 TP304 TP304H TP316L TP317L TP347 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe

ASTM A358 CL1 TP304 TP304H TP316L TP317L TP347 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe

ASTM A358 CL1 Stainless Steel Welded Pipe

Standard: ASTM A358/A358M – Standard Specification for Electric-Fusion-Welded Austenitic Chromium-Nickel Stainless Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service
Grade: CL1 (Class 1)

Application: High-temperature service in pressure systems (e.g., boilers, heat exchangers, petrochemical plants).

Type: Electric-fusion-welded (EFW) austenitic stainless steel pipes.

2. Material Grades

ASTM A358 CL1 typically uses 304/304L or 316/316L stainless steel. Key chemical compositions (approximate):

Grade Cr (%) Ni (%) Mo (%) C (%)
304 18-20 8-10.5 ≤0.08
304L 18-20 8-12 ≤0.03
316 16-18 10-14 2-3 ≤0.08
316L 16-18 10-14 2-3 ≤0.03

3. Mechanical Properties

Property Requirements Test Standard
Yield Strength (MPa) ≥205 (304/304L) / ≥205 (316/316L) ASTM E8/E8M
Tensile Strength (MPa) ≥515 (304/304L) / ≥515 (316/316L) ASTM E8/E8M
Elongation (%) ≥35 (min) ASTM E8/E8M

4. Dimensions & Tolerances

Size Range: Typically ½" to 24" nominal diameter.

Wall Thickness: Varies per schedule (e.g., Sch 40, Sch 80).

Tolerances: Conforms to ASTM A403/A403M for welded pipe dimensions.

5. Surface Finish

Welded Joint: May require post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) or pickling/passivation to ensure corrosion resistance.

General Finish: Smooth internal/external surfaces, free of defects.

6. Special Requirements

Pressure Testing: Hydrostatic or non-destructive testing (NDT) per ASTM A370.

Heat Treatment: Solution annealing for 304/316 grades to optimize corrosion resistance.

7. Applications

High-temperature and high-pressure pipelines.

Power generation (boilers, condensers).

Petrochemical and chemical processing.

Food and pharmaceutical equipment (when polished).
