What is AISI 501? (Pearlitic heat-resistant steel)

In the field of metal materials, AISI 501 stainless steel is a special steel that has received widespread attention, especially for its excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance. It is a type of pearlite steel with a unique microstructure and excellent performance. For users engaged in the manufacture of stainless steel or high-temperature equipment, it is very helpful to understand the characteristics and application scenarios of AISI 501.

1. What is AISI 501 stainless steel?

AISI 501 is a pearlite heat-resistant steel standardized by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). It is a special alloy steel mainly used for structural parts in high-temperature environments. Its name "pearlite" comes from the pearlite (austenite) structure in its microstructure.

3. Main characteristics of AISI 501 Hot Forging Stainless Steel

High temperature strength: It can maintain good strength and rigidity in high temperature environment of 500°C to 600°C.
Oxidation resistance: At high temperature, a dense oxide film will be formed on the surface, which effectively prevents oxidation and corrosion.
Good processing performance: Suitable for forging, casting and machining.
Heat resistance stability: At high temperature, the microstructure has high stability.

4. UNS S50100 stainless steel is widely used in the following fields:

Chemical industry: used for high temperature reactors, heat exchangers and pipelines.
Gas turbine: for combustion chambers and high-temperature components.
Aerospace: for engine components and high-temperature structural parts.
Power industry: for boiler components and high-temperature valves.
Oil and gas: for high-temperature and high-pressure equipment.

5. Heat treatment of EN 1.7362 stainless steel

The heat treatment process of AISI 501 steel usually includes the following steps:
Normalizing: heating the material to 850°C to 900°C and then cooling in air.
Tempering: heating the material to 600°C to 700°C and then cooling in air or oil.
Solution treatment: improving its high-temperature properties through high-temperature solution treatment.
