As a common austenitic stainless steel material, 201 stainless steel cold drawn tube has good corrosion resistance and relatively low cost, and is widely used in various industries.
However, in the 201 series of stainless steel, it is further subdivided into J1, J2, J3, etc. These different types of stainless steel each have unique performance characteristics and are suitable for different application scenarios. This article will compare the characteristics of 201 stainless steel J1, J2, and J3 subcategories, and explore their respective advantages and suitable applications.
201 stainless steel is divided into five types from J1 to J5, and the difference in composition will affect the performance. J4 has a high copper content and is suitable for deep drawing products; J1 is widely circulated and has general machinability; J3 has high carbon and low copper, high hardness but poor ductility; J2 and J5 have high hardness, simple processing, but poor ductility.

1. 201 stainless steel J1
201J1 stainless steel is a variant of the 201 series, mainly by adding manganese and nitrogen to replace part of chromium and nickel to reduce production costs. 201J1 has good machinability, easy molding, and economy. Due to the addition of manganese, its strength is higher than that of ordinary 201 stainless steel, but its corrosion resistance is slightly lower than that of standard 201 stainless steel.
Therefore, 201J1 is suitable for uses that do not require high corrosion resistance but are cost-sensitive, such as decorative parts, kitchen utensils, etc.
2. 201 Stainless Steel J2
201J2 is an improved version based on 201J1, with a more balanced composition, adjusted ratios of chromium and nickel, and increased content of other alloying elements. Therefore, 201J2 has better corrosion resistance while maintaining good mechanical properties.
201J2 generally has higher hardness and strength, and is suitable for manufacturing products with certain strength requirements, such as mechanical parts or high-end decorations. In addition, due to its better corrosion resistance, it can also be used in outdoor facilities.
3. 201 Stainless Steel J3
201J3 is another improved material in the 201 series. It pays more attention to improving corrosion resistance in terms of composition. By optimizing the chemical composition ratio, 201J3 excels in corrosion resistance.
