Advantages Of 1.4006 Stainless Steel Structural Plates

1.4006 is a martensitic stainless steel in the European standard (EN), corresponding to 410 stainless steel in the American standard (ASTM). It has a medium carbon content and a high chromium content. It combines high strength, wear resistance and moderate corrosion resistance. It is often used in structural parts that require hardness and mechanical properties.

Advantages of 1.4006 stainless steel plate
Heat treatment strengthening:
1.4006 can significantly improve hardness and strength through quenching + tempering. After typical heat treatment:
Tensile strength: ≥700 MPa (up to 1000 MPa)
Hardness: HRC 25–35 (after quenching), suitable for wear-resistant and impact-resistant scenarios.
Cold rolling or cold forging can further improve surface hardness and dimensional accuracy.
Good wear resistance
High carbon (0.08–0.15%) and chromium (11.5–13.5%) content forms a hard chromium carbide phase, which is suitable for manufacturing wear-resistant parts such as knives, bearings, and gears.

The advantages of 1.4006 stainless steel structural plates make it widely used in the following scenarios:
Mechanical engineering: shafts, valve parts, pump bodies (high strength + wear resistance).
Tool manufacturing: industrial knives, surgical instruments (high hardness + easy processing).
Automotive industry: brake discs, transmission parts (wear resistance + high temperature oxidation resistance).
Construction and hardware: high-strength bolts, fasteners (tensile resistance + atmospheric corrosion resistance).
Energy equipment: turbine blades, mining machinery (impact resistance + wear resistance).

Weldability:
Poor welding performance, preheating (150–300°C) and low-hydrogen welding rods (such as E410) are required, and annealing is required after welding to eliminate stress.

Comparison with other stainless steels
Compared with austenitic stainless steels (such as 304):
Advantages: higher strength and hardness, lower cost, and better wear resistance.
Disadvantages: weak corrosion resistance and difficult welding.
Compared with ferritic stainless steels (such as 430/1.4016):
Advantages: performance can be greatly improved by heat treatment, and wear resistance is better.
Disadvantages: slightly lower corrosion resistance and higher processing complexity.
