Heat Treatment Of SUS321 347 Stainless Steel

Heat treatment of SUS321 and SUS347 stainless steel bars: How to improve corrosion resistance and high temperature performance?

Core process of heat treatment: solution treatment + stabilization treatment
Solution treatment (Solution Annealing)
Purpose: dissolve carbides, form a single austenite structure, and improve corrosion resistance.
Eliminate cold working stress and improve processing performance.
Process parameters: Temperature: 1010~1150℃ (adjusted according to thickness, such as 1050℃ for thin-walled parts).
Insulation time: calculated according to thickness (for example: 25mm thick insulation for 1 hour).
Cooling method: rapid water cooling (to avoid carbide precipitation).

Stabilization Annealing
Purpose: Make titanium (SUS321) or niobium (SUS347) preferentially combine with carbon to form stable carbides (TiC/NbC) to prevent intergranular corrosion.
Process parameters:
SUS321: 850~880℃ insulation for 2~4 hours.
SUS347: 900~950℃ for 3~5 hours (niobium requires higher temperature to fully react).
Cooling method: air cooling or furnace cooling.
