What Is 2B Surface 304 Steel Plate?
What Does "2B Finish" Mean?
"2B" is a standard mill finish defined in EN 10088-2 and ASTM A480/A480M.
It's the most common finish for cold-rolled stainless steel.
The surface is dull, smooth, and slightly reflective, but not as shiny as BA (Bright Annealed) or mirror-polished finishes.
How 2B Surface Is Made:
The 304 steel is cold rolled to the desired thickness.
It is then annealed (heat treated) to restore its ductility.
Finally, it undergoes descaling and light skin pass rolling, which gives the surface a uniform matte-gray appearance.
Characteristics of 2B Finish on 304 Steel Plate:
| Property | Detail |
|---|---|
| Material | AISI 304 (EN 1.4301), Austenitic stainless |
| Surface roughness | Typically Ra ≈ 0.1–0.5 µm |
| Appearance | Smooth, grayish, low-gloss surface |
| Corrosion resistance | Excellent (same as base 304 stainless) |
| Applications | Food processing equipment, kitchen surfaces, tanks, medical tools, chemical containers |
